I'm just going to throw my 2 cents in - what has become diluted in this thread is the difference between a 6 cylinder in a mini-van versus a V-6 in a compact truck or other. Part of it has to do with the body structure - unibody vs. body on frame. Rear axle ratio, tongue weight... there is so much to factor in. I had a V-8 Explorer with plenty of tow capacity for my 232, but after getting caught in a stiff cross wind, I realized the old 'tail wagging the dog' situation. Everyone always talks about 'how much it can pull' - the more important thing is 'how much and how fast can you bring it to a stop."
Like I said, my 2 cents.
Thank you
