Jayco Kiwi Roof

My husband lifted me up in the backhoe this weekend to inspect the roof of the TT. All the caulking looked good, other then dirty. I have two questions, one...I couldn't see under the A/C or the bathroom vent to inspect the caulking, both kind of sit up off the roof about 1 inch, any suggestions on inspecting and recaulking? two....how stable is the roof for a not so slim, but not overweight person to climb up there??
Thanks for all advice.
  • On the Kiwi, caulk where the roof and front and rear walls meet, than go inside, remove the AC panel and give the 4 attaching bolts a tightening!
  • You don't say what model you have. I can tell you that in the case of our Jayco Kiwi (not a hybrid Kiwi), our warranty claim for roof delamination was denied, citing damage that was supposedly caused by crawling over parts of the roof to install vent covers.
  • Thank you for your help. I appreciate it! I will send hubby up to do the gasket and chaulk...he'll be very excited now...not lol.
  • RV roofs are made with rafters made of 2X2 lumber. A piece of 1/2" (floorboard-or-pressboard)covers the entire surface. Then the final covering. (Rubber or fiberglass) thin sheet is applied over the wood. Finally some sort of sealant is applied to all seams.

YES you can walk on your roof anywhere you want. Im not sure what the weight limit is, but our roof guy is upward of 300 lbs. and he walks all over the roofs every day.
  • Jayco hybrid roofs are made to be walked on, though I don't know if there is a weight limit. That said on our current X20E the front section of mine has some give as if it's missing a support. I don't like heights so I only crawl around on mine anyway.
  • The A/C unit is not "caulked"...it has a foam gasket and more than likely is time to replace. The roof vent must have a vent cover on it. you would have to remove it to inspect the actual vent
