Thanks all. I've definitely known that the Jayco will be a weight challenge and is on the top end of the ratings. I figure with careful loading we could make them work.
There is also the Witehawk 29REKS, which at 33', 655 lb tongue and a layout we like on paper is a contender. Just have to see it in person,
The other one we "almost moved into" is the Open Range RT272RLS which at 32', 785 tongue weight seems to be in the running too. Got confirmation it is available with a table and chairs vs dinette so it's back on.
I'm trying to be realistic on the weight of our stuff, and I'm coming up short. Figuring on 100 lbs of clothes, maybe 100lbs of kitchen stuff, and 100 lbs or so of miscellaneous junk and that still leaves a lot left over. Doubt we'd ever travel with full tanks as I'm cheap and don't want the drag on MPG. Maybe 1/2 a tank for using the rest room while on the road but can't see much more than that. Boon docking is pretty much out of the question. Minimal groceries would be carried as I'd rather stop at a local grocery store vs drag it there.
Maybe I'm off base but when we tent camped we could load it all in a car for a weekend. We can do a week by car/hotel with a big suitcase for the both of us, all loaded in the trunk of a Taurus.
