Jayco White Hawk 28dsbh vs Cougar 28RBS

All-

We are looking to move up from our hybrid to a double bunk trailer and the models that we are considering is the Jayco White Hawk 28dsbh and the Cougar 28rbs. Our previous camper was a Jayco and we were very happy with the quality of the trailer however the Keystone Cougar X-Lite has a very stylish aerodynamic cap. Both floorplans are the same however the Jayco is a little lighter over all and on the tongue. I have a 2007 Chevy 5.3 half ton so I should be ok there. Are any of you owners of either brand? Is there another brand camper out there with the same floor plan that I am unaware of? I really like the large double bunk idea since I would be using this camper to go to races or tailgates and my buddies have a place to sleep. Do the small bunks work for adults?

  • The Cougar is definately heavy on the tongue weight. That has to play a factor in many of those who have a half ton truck.
  • I pull this with my Chevy half ton:

  • You should verify your tow rating and payload of the truck. Also, check your RPO sticker for Z82 for the HD trailering package and if you do not know already look for the RPO for your axle code. GU4, GU6, GT4, or GT5. The Cougar will be 7500 pounds with 900+ pounds of tongue weight once loaded for a long weekend.
  • I know the Jayco has over 600lb capacity on the upper bunk. Good thing to keep in mind though.
  • We have a quad bunk, with 2 being doubles. I can't recommend a small (single) bunk for an adult. Also keep in mind that there is usually a weight restriction on the upper bunk, in our case 150lbs.
