Jayflight 29 RKS but the kitchen is at the back

Guys we really like this floor plan and the incredible storage available in it. However friends mention that we shouldn't buy a rear kitchen trailer. Apparently Ill break dishes, Ill get cabinet door opening allowing the content on the floor etc etc......

So, not sure what to do so....any experience with rear kitchen trailer ? Thanks

  • The rear will bounce more without question. Add shocks absorbers to reduce the rebound. We always remove the microwave turntable when traveling. The only major calamity was when the dealer abused the trailer and broke down the pantry shelves.
  • We got our first trailer with a rear kitchen (our fourth trailer) on the second trip after going over some rough road we had a top cabinet door open and two bowls fall out hit the counter and disintergrate into a thousand pieces. We then started using a very small diameter bungy cord to hold the cabinet doors closed. On a 1000 mile return trip the cabinet door molding separated at a mitered corner. I am sure we will eventually get this working.
  • My last trailer was a rear kitchen and wouldn't do it again! Nothing was ever broken, but the cabinet contents were always in disarray and the microwave turntable beat the heck out of the interior of it.:M I was always surprised it still worked.:h Good luck on your decision.
    Happy camping, Bill
  • I have a jayflight 24RKS,,, I have had it for 5 years and the only dish I have ever had broken is the cup I left sitting on the table by accident. I often forget to put something in the microwave on back wall to keep glass tray from moving, and although I have to re-situate it, but have never had it break.. and I have to enter and leave parking at my house over a curb..
  • Well that doesnt seems to be too bad, I think we will take our chance , thansk for sharing your experience guys
  • My jayco 25z also has a rear kitchen hen and I've never had a cabinet come open on the road never even broken a plate while I must admit I only keep plastic plates and cups in the camper (except for my goofy coffee cup)
  • Remember the rear seat in the school bus verses the front or middle seats? Same concept. Our rear kitchen Jayco 29RKS 5th wheel gave us one broken plate on one trip out I-10 when it was still a buck board. Then we started putting a paper plate between each china plate and never had another problem. I prefer a RL for the big picture window but if we saw a RK unit we liked and everything was accessible with the slides in, I'd have another RK without worry.
Our previous rear bathroom Jayco Quest 5th wheel would occasionally splash water out of the toilet and on our first trip out, the closet rod broke out of the wall with our heavy jackets hanging on it. The school bus analogy applies there too.
  • regardless of where the kitchen is.... proper storage is the KEY...
its a movable house.. and moves.

mine its the bathroom medicine cabinet.. in the center of trailer, over the twin axles.. 2 different latches.. will not stay closed.

mine has front kitchen, rear bedroom. 30 foot.
  • I have read dozens of posts like this; asking about rear kitchens, and I have never heard anyone say they get broken dishes, etc.
To the contrary, our rear kitchen has been great and I dont see any more movement of contents than we did with our center kitchen - if there is it isn't noticeable.
I would buy another again in a heartbeat.
