Jeep GC and TT Towing Assistance

Welcome to the forum. As you have already seen, there are a number of folks here that don't agree with a manufactures towing "limits".

Looks like you bought the 1700BH model, which only has a GVWR of 3700 pounds.

You will be well under the tow rating of the GC. You may approach the payload rating of the GC, but I don't think you will be over it.

Contrary to popular opinion (mostly from those with only keyboard experience), the GC is a very capable tow vehicle within the manufactures limits.

I have had 5 or 6 GCs, currently have a 2014 EcoDiesel model. And while I haven't towed a TT, I have towed many boats, the heaviest of which is about 2000 pounds more than you are towing. Yes, aerodynamics are different, but the vehicle stability is mostly the same. Especially compared to the little trailer you have purchased. My experience towing with the GC has been positive.

I would have no qualms about pulling your trailer anywhere with your GC. Set cruise at 65, keep an eye on transmission temps as you are going over the divide, and enjoy the drive.

I bought a WDH/sway bar so I believe my tongue weight can be 350-400lbs based on the trailer weight, but with the WDH hitch does that increase my tongue weight allowance? I also bought the extra trailer brake controller for the inside of my jeep.
My jeep has a GVWR of 6500lbs, GAWR FRONT: 3200lbs and GAWR REAR 3700lbs. From what I have found my payload is 1240.


My question is basically this- we are traveling from CO to Moab in a couple weeks and I want to make sure my setup is good to go. I feel like it is adequate and if I take my time and go slow I should be able to manage this. Thoughts, recommendations, suggestions welcome.

Contrary to popular opinion (mostly from those with only keyboard experience), the GC is a very capable tow vehicle within the manufactures limits.

I have had 5 or 6 GCs, currently have a 2014 EcoDiesel model. And while I haven't towed a TT, I have towed many boats, the heaviest of which is about 2000 pounds more than you are towing. Yes, aerodynamics are different, but the vehicle stability is mostly the same. Especially compared to the little trailer you have purchased. My experience towing with the GC has been positive.

I would have no qualms about pulling your trailer anywhere with your GC.
