I had a Frontier maxed out on payload pulling a 23’ camper. Did it for years all over the US with no problems and no white knuckles. I don’t know how that compares with a Jeep, but a lot of internet experts told me I couldn’t or shouldn’t do it. I knew my numbers and was set up to handle them.
You were lucky. One emergency stop (or not stop) would have changed your mind right quick.
There are MILLIONS of lucky drivers that get away with " being lucky" every day.
I tend to look at the worse case scenario and if my combo can handle that "worst" case, taking "luck" out of the equation as much as possible.
What you are willing to trade for the safety of your family and others is vastly different from what I am willing to trade.
To each his own.
So what you are saying is that his vehicle can't stop that trailer that weighs 61% of what his vehicle weighs....but your combo best case scenario the trailer weighs 66% of what your vehicle weighs and worst case the trailer weighs 88% of what your vehicle weighs.... :S
I would think his worst case 61% is alot better than your worse case 88%....people seriously need to get off this braking high horse and look at the numbers. They don't lie at all and opinions are NOT facts. Every trailer is equipped with trailer brakes also for a reason.
