Happy Hicks MFL means just don't be afraid to let the engine purr at 3 to 4500 5000 rpms when need be up steeper grades. Naturally aspirated engines are designed to make their peak torque and HP in those bands.
Thanks librty02, those numbers are reasonable. In the OP, a HP of 290 is mentioned, however this is at very high rpm of around 6,500. I use the max torque, rather than HP, which is about 260 lb ft at 4800 rpm. You will get most of this torque by 4000-4500, so that would be the range I would use when needed, temporarily, to climb a steep hill.
