Jeep V-6 engine

Would like to hear from Jeep V-6 owners. Have had a couple of
mechanics indicate there have been many problems with this engine,
compared to the in-line 6. Would appreciate any and all comments,
good, bad, or indifferent

  • Starting in 2012, Jeep wranglers started using the 3.6 Pentastar V6 engines. The early Pentastars did have some head problems. The heads were replaced under warranty and the heads were redesigned. I have two Jeep Wranglers (2014 and a 2015). Although I don't have many miles on them yet the engine is very strong and smooth. They also use these engines in the Ram 1500 trucks and there are many on the road with over 100K miles. It's a very good engine.

Which V6 and what year and what problems??

    Exactly.

To my knowledge there have been three V6's in Jeeps. One is the old 90 degree Buick V6 that was used in the '60's and early '70's. Think it was called the Dauntless V6...doubt if it is that one....had a good reputation and was used too many years ago.

In this century, there was the V6 (think it was a 3.8 liter) that was based on the Mopar 4.7 liter V8...with two cylinders lopped off and the current V6 (Pentastar V6) that is used in a number of cars and light trucks (including Jeep ) that is in 3.2 and 3.5 liter sizes.
