Sounds like you have put lots of thought into it. I agree the diesel gas equation is changing on all fronts power,reliability,MPG's are very different than just a few years ago.
Currently I still enjoy my diesel,however I imagine one day I might jump off the diesel bridge and down size. The time will come when I can leave the bunkhouse world and re-evaluate my entire combo. We will all have to analyze our needs and make a few camping future decisions.
You are a few steps ahead of me, but I'll get there one day.
