That's definitely not true around me in northern California. Fall to spring diesel is about $0.60 - $0.70 /gal more than 87 octane. In the summer it'll be about $1.00 - $1.10 / gal more.
Stands true for Arizona too; the gap doesn't necessarily close in summer as it does in some other areas.
I used to drive a diesel even though I didn't "need" one but when it #2 hit about $4.75/gal back in 2008 I could no longer justify it so off it went.
Next truck might be a Ram 1500 Eco, but if the 2500/6.4L combo impresses me more then I'll go that route.
