The four links 'should'keep the axle assembly well enough to not need that 3rd
shock, but since they did design it in...wonder what is going on???
It's for minute amount of axel wrap. We use them in the race car game to prevent tire shock. When you come of the turn with a lot of HP and torque you don't want a solid rod up there because it will shake the tire loose from the track at the hit of the throttle off of the turn. With a shock there it will smooth out the shock load to the tire and also smooth out the shock the driver and passengers feel.
I'm sure Dodge did it for the latter.
BTW, the suspension system is the best I have ever seen on a truck and close to what I have ever seen in my life. It's a work of art IMHO! Dodge I'm sure copied a lot of it from race car tech. Nice job boys! :)
I'm not a coil spring guy for trucks but this is a SUPER NICE system!
