Welp, we've managed to derail this thread but good. ;) More trivia, Ford used the 8.8 inch rear axle in Explorers and 4.0 V6 Rangers (including your Ranger twin Mazda B4000.) My B2000 was a completely different animal but when introduced in 1985 it was somewhat revolutionary among mini-trucks.
