They are not automated - yes I know Lance uses CNC machines for making parts, but humans put them together. They most likely are not union shops. They didn't take a spanking from non domestic competition. Components meet minimum standards if at all. They don't have a lot of quality control - if any, and their service network is horrible.
Take a look at some pictures of the RVs forum member Robert Ryan posts from Australia. Would they cost more as imports? Yes. Would people buy them? Yes.
