I've said it before, and I'll say it again: making these trailers of a much higher quality would add a "significant" number of dollars to the purchase price. It just might price them beyond what a lot of folks ( especially those with young families ) could afford to spend on what is a non-essential purchase.
I'd rather have a less expensive buy in price, and have to fix a few things myself.
I've fixed drawers, cabinet doors and some of the support pieces under the dinette seat, etc on my trailer. None of my fixes have cost me more than the cost of a few screws, some glue and a few hours of my labor. I'll take that tradeoff, and use the saved dollars to go on more camping trips.
As I always say: some assembly required, best owned by those with a love for tinkering.
Its not so much the quality of materials, as it is the assembly process. Its doesn't cost a dime to do it right the first time.
Im happy with everything in my 2012 TT (materials, appliances etc,). its the way it was all put together that leaves me shaking my head.
The manufactures would actually make more money by doing it right the first time. Because when you take the unit back to the dealer for warranty work on shoddy craftsmanship, you do you think pays for it? surely not the dealer. They send that bill to the manufacturer to cover all repair costs. That has to be eating into their bottom line.
It is possible to have quality AND quantity at the same time. I see it everyday in my job.
Dealers really are compensated in full for their warranty repair efforts. For this reason there is a non selling dealer warranty issue.
Dealers do try to clean up the mess however often dealers are not truly capable of fixing the problems. We often read of multiple trips to fix the same problem. Quality control issues need to be resolved at the factory not in the field.
In many ways the whole business model is flawed, leaving the RV consumer holding a bag of warranty headaches that are often not resolved easily or efficiently.
