I look at these rolling gypsy wagons as kind of like buying a piece of ( so called ) furniture at Ikea. It's not complete. I have to do final assembly. And the main advantage of buying a product in that state is it's less expensive to purchase, because we need to invest some of our own labor and time in it.
If it would make some buyers happy to have a travel trailer that is 100% complete/zero defect, then in my mind that would be great. As long as they would still make a "less expensive version" for folks like me that are willing to do the final work to it.
Years ago there was a furniture company in my town called "the unvarnished truth". You got furniture from them as bare wood that you could finish yourself. And boy did need a lot of sanding first. I loved it, bought several pieces from them, and had to do a little re-gluing, etc, but in the end, had a product I liked. Kinda like my "indiana farm boy built travel trailer" here. :)
If it makes you guys feel any better, the folks over on the airstream forum have exactly the same complaints. Water leaks, rotted out floors after a few years, corrosion of the exterior aluminum, drawers, trim loose, even cabinets falling completely off walls.
And they are paying double to triple the price compared to these white box camper trailers.
