The 6.0L at 5000rpm makes more wheel torque than the Duramax at 2000rpm going the same speed. Let it spin when it needs to.
This comment misses the point of the thread and certainly does not tell the whole story. The small block develops less torque than the diesel and that is verified on the Ford towing guides when both engines are operated in a manner that developes maximum torque. In some instances the loafing diesel and the screaming gasser might make the same power and torque but at the end of the day the diesel puts out substantially more torque when it is operated at it's optimum than the gasser operated at it's optimum. The small block also puts out more power at 5000 rpm's than the diesel at idle, big deal, who cares? It means nothing. And it has nothing to do with the annoying constant transmission shifting the OP referenced.
Go tow the trailer behind a diesel and then the OP can decide how much irritating shifting the diesel does compared to the gasser. Numbers on a chart aside, that says it all and the difference is huge!
