I have a mercedes benz gl450 with a 4.4 liter twin turbo gas engine. I can cruise all day in 6th on most hills and rarely have to go over 2000 rpms to maintain speed and the SUV is NEVER shifting gears unless I want it to. It has 3.43 gears. I tow a 30 foot toy hauler with between 7500 and 8000lbs. I have over 400lbs of torque from 1500rpm all the way up to 5000 and it gets 11-12 mpg. A friend of mine has a chevy 2500 and it boggles my mind when he tells me he has to floor it just to maintain 55-60mph up hills with trailers that are half the size of mine.
