I really think this (like so many things in life), boils down to personal responsibility. I'll quantify my comments by admitting I've never towed with a diesel, but this is what I perceive after towing with four different gassers over the last 21 years. A gas truck for me is a very comfortable tow IF, and I mean IF you are a good margin under their max tow and payload ratings. It's the the ones that are towing over say, 75% of the rating that will struggle. My new truck is rated to tow over 11,000 lbs, and has a payload of 2876. My TT has a GVWR of 7600, and my tongue weight is 1000. I expect a very comfortable tow. I agree completely with those who aren't afraid to let the rpm's climb with the load when needed. The new motors are so refined it doesn't bother me a bit.
