Just got back!

Question

Just got back from out nearly cross country trip.  Wend across Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin on Hwy 2.  Hwy 2 is a great road and is 2 lane the whole way.  Got to see a lot of farming country and lots of little farm towns.  Nice drive down from Wisconsin to Ypsilanti.  Then Ypsilanti to St. Louis for a wedding at the Union Train Station.  Real hot and humid in St. Louis. 96 Degrees and 80% humidity.  Nasty.  Then Oklahoma City.  Spent three days there basically eating way too much with friends....way too much.  headed home oh I-40.  Spent the night in Needles CA and it was 116 degrees @ 4:00 PM.  The little 13.5 A/C unit was really working hard to cool down the already heat soaked rig.  Home to the Central Coast California by 4:00 PM.  6400 miles.  Averaged 11.5 mpg. Great Trip.  Can't wait to do this again and have more time to check things out.

Good for you!  Glad all went well!  Not to bad of mileage either.  It won't be long before you are going on longer trips when you are retired!  Happy camping

Wow that's quite the trip. Thanks for the the info on Hwy 2 . Plan on traveling it in the near future. 11.5 is impressive mileage.

I liked route 2 and much prefer that to interstates where everyone is in a hurry.  About the mileage, is that gas or diesel?  Depending how you drive and what trailer you you are pulling, 11.5 is high for gas and low for diesel.

I've found if I drop my speed to 60-65 it brings the mileage up to 13-ish.  I also pushed a lot of head winds during the trip.

You made it across Wisconsin on Hwy 2 before the flooding.  About two weeks ago it washed out near Ashland by heavy rains.  Glad you had a safe trip.  Hwy 2 across Minnesota to Montana is on my list for a trip some summer.
