On naturally aspirated engines torque was a function of displacement and volumetric efficiency. The inline six may have had a natural tendency to be more volumetric efficiency than a V configuration at low rpm but today with superchargers and direct fuel injection engineers can very easily dial in whatever torque curve they desire with either an inline or V block and displacement can be replaced with supercharging.
These will be turbocharged as well
