- PAAKExplorerI run with the propane on at times. But unless your destination is only an hour away, it will still be good in the fridge if it is off. Things wont spoil that quickly. There is nothing wrong with running propane while you are on the road.
- B_O__PlentyExplorer IIBeen running mine on gas going down the road since I got my first trailer with a gas/elec fridge and electronic ignitor back in 1993..Never had a problem ever. I travel about 7,000 miles and spend about 100 nights a year in my rig, so it's not like we don't use it. I'm not making any plans to drink warm beer and eat spoiled food at the end of my trip..
B.O. - bobjogoneExplorerWe turn propane off while traveling. We us keep two ice packs in freezer for day use and they help keep it cold. When we're traveling more than 4 hours - we add frozen water bottles the day before for fridge and freezer.
- NanciLExplorer IIWe won't run our refrig. on gas while traveling.
I don't care what others say.
My manual advises not to and I'll go with that
With that said. the day before traveling we turn on the refrigerator and leave it on overnight.
My wife loads all the frozen stuff from our home freezer in and yes it stays solid for an eight hour trip, and the milk etc stays nice and cold.
We have been doing it this way for many years, and will be doing it again shortly when we head to our snowbird destination.
Jack L - Crazy_RayExplorerGary can you give a LINK for the states about turning propane off when filling up???
- Dennis_M_MExplorerWe always run with the fridge on propane.

Hi,
It is a small risk, and the propane leak detector will shut off the propane if something happens.
Fred.
Huh? The propane leak detector will shut down the propane? Mine doesn't have any connection to the propane supply. Maybe you mean the safety valves that sense a high flow and shut down?
BTW, I always travel with the propane on and the fridge running.
SOME rigs have emergency shut-off solenoids activated by LP Leak Detector. If it is not ON/Good solenoid won't open. If it alarms solenoid closes.
SOME rigs........ mostly MHs------not many any more
BUT fridges have built in features......flame proofing. No main flame.no propane flow - mhardinExplorer

BTW, I always travel with the propane on and the fridge running. - Fridge will stay cold indefinitely while driving because it automatically switches to propane when you unplug. Fridge is specifically designed to run while you drive.
- Dakota98ExplorerI think most of us will run the frig on propane while in transit, but keep in mind a few States have laws against propane being in use while fueling, for the obvious reason.
If the frig has been in operation for a while & you want to shut it down while traveling, as others indicated, freezer & frig will stay cold for a while.
I believe another option, if space is available, use a small block of ice (in a plastic container) in one or both compartments with frig off. The frig is the same thing as a picnic cooler, if you think about it.:B
