We just bought a 17 Forest River Surveyor, We did a walk through and spent 30 min in the trailer befor we told the guy we would take it, When I called to say get it ready I had a list of things that needed worked on, when we took delivery there were still a couple things needing fixed but nothing major and I would rather fix them right than have it half done and need to redo it anyway.
The water heater would heat but no hot water came out of any outlet, ( one bypass valve was still closed ) had to adjust the shower door, repaint the toung and front frame ( It looked horible ) yes I am anal like that, the shine and detail job thay did was a spray down with water and slim up the rubber and plastic with armor all, so it needed a good cleaning to get all the factory off of it, one under dinet seat drawer is still wonky but we are going to let it go for a little while, many many screws were not what i call tight, and I put my hand on every single plumbing fitting I could reach and they ( all) could have been tighter,
There is a good chance these things are built by younger guys putting in there 8 hours, finding a builder that takes pride in the product they are prodicing is rare, finding a dealer and camper prep guy that takes pride in what they do is even worse, the 2 ( boys ) that done the PDI on my camper maybe had good intensions but they just didn't know anything and probably didn't care that they didn't know anything.
If you buy a new or used camper check it over as best you can before you say, I want it, and then when you get it home go over it with a fine toothed comb,
I do it with everything I buy wheather it be a car, truck, motorcycle, tractor, lawnmower.
It is basicly like buying a bicycle at walmart and expecting to go race the tour-de-france without checking it out first.
