Keystone Cougar HC design flaw with rear cabinets.

I have a 2014 Keystone High Country 321 RES Travel Trailer.

There is a design flaw in the rear cabinets. Should one of the cabinet doors open while the slides are in and you open the slide, it can catch the open cabinet door and tear the door and its frame apart. I found out the hard way.

I heard a crunch and did not know where it was coming from. The door survived, but I had to rebuild the cabinet frame. It took a few hours of time.

The easiest solution is to tie the doors together so they wont open much.
  • I added magnetic child locks to our bunk house closet doors for the same reason.
  • That is a good idea.

I am new here. How do you post a photo?

I do that anyway, using shock cord to ensure none of the cabinet doors can open inadvertently while traveling - no biggie. :)

  • on our trailer, I always open the slides about 6 inches, about enough to get between them, then walk back and look at both sides to make sure doors, drawers are closed, and nothing has fallen to interfere with the slides.

Then I move them the rest of the way out.

I've seen many trailers that have drawers, doors, chairs, etc. that can end up interfering with the slides when they extend or retract.
