Keystone Cougar vs. Heartland Wilderness (Quality)

We are narrowing our search down on the trailer we want, and since I am new to the game I do not know much about long term quality of brands. We are looking at the Wilderness 2850bh and the Cougar Xlite 28rbs.They both have pretty much the same floor plan and almost same weight, but the Cougar has a higher tongue weight (not a deal breaker).

My opinion is that the Cougar seems to be a little bit higher quality. Just want to get an experienced outsiders opinion. Thanks in advance.
  • I just purchased the Wilderness 2875BH in June of this year, spent 40 nights in this summer. Unit has had minor issues, punch list had 3 repair items and the biggest was replacing microwave. Other than that quality has been good. I purchased an E-Z lift WD distributing hitch with sway control and am looking at buying the Equalizer next spring. I have never looked at the cougar so cannot make any comments. Wife saw this floor plan and loves the island and all the counter space.
  • We had a new 2006 Cougar 243RKS and loved it. It was very open and light due to the number of windows. We did have some initial teething issues that were fixed under warranty. I found that Keystone stood behind their products very well. Unfortunately our selling dealer couldn't repair anything despite numerous attempts. The quality was very good and after a few years of problems we had many happy years of camping in our trailer. I have no idea about Wilderness quality.
  • Go for the Cougar, it will tow better. The higher tongue weight means more weight forward the axles, equals less sway.
  • My opinions is that neither brand is junk, but the Cougar is a little better. Nicer materials and construction and I thought larger tanks.
