Kids riding in the TC?

What are your thoughts on letting kids ride in the TC while barreling down the road? Did you ride in one when you were a kid? Would you let kids ride in it now?

lmao... bolt the seat belt to the 3/8" plywood seat, which is end screwed to the plywood floor, which is ....
    Oh yea, that'll work.

And we paid some nincompoop to write that into law..
  • Summary of state laws can be found here:

    State RV Laws

For California it says: "Passenger may ride in pickup camper provided passenger can communicate with drive and exit can be opened from both interior and exterior, or safety glass in window required. Seat belts are required."
  • I did ride in a TC back in the late 60s ,neighbor had a TC and I went with them sometime. Was fun to ride up in the cab over and wave at the on coming traffic.
No I would not let my girls or grand children ride in the TC now days . just not a good idea.
  • I may stand corrected, but I think in California, you cannot ride in the back of a pickup truck, unless it has a seat and seat belts.

  • "You also have to have seat belts in the camper or motorhome I belive.." As crazy as the law is, in Indiana, if you are inside the vehicle, you have to be seat belted in. But.... if you ride in the back of a pick-up truck (open truck) .... you don't! Figure that one out!
  • My wife and her brothers did it when they were kids (early 1970's). My kids rode in the back of our pick-up truck with a shell, many times (late 1980's, early 1990's). I haven't let any of my grand kids ride in the bed of he pick-up now though.

Unfortunately, as stupid as our world has become.... kids riding in the back of a truck camper is probably not a good idea. Some fool-brained nibby-body would probably call the police and say they are locked in and it too HOT in there! It's a stupid world we live in these days. I don't advise it!

I rode in the back of pickups, and on the back window shelf of cars. My two kids would ride in the camper on occasion, as would my wife, during the late seventies and early eighties.

I have mixed emotions about it now. I would do it under certain circumstances, but would be hesitant on a regular basis. In California, it is legal as I understand, but you must have two-way communication devices.

You also have to have seat belts in the camper or motorhome I belive.. I also rode in the back of trucks and the back window shelf of cars (We are dating ourselves!!) when I was young. Great fun!! In the 1980s I did have friends children ride in my camper. they loved it and I didn't give it much thought at the time. I wouldn't do it now though since I've seen the devastation that occurs when a camper crashes/falls over, etc. I had one roll down a hill off the truck once and seeing the inside was quite a wake up call. everything emptied out of the drawers and cabinets, including the knives, cast iron pots/pans, bottles, etc. I'd hate to see what would have happened to a person in there.. Just my own thoughts though.
