Yes, we'll continue with the Tailgater we bought last fall for the aforementioned tree reasons. We've set it on the roof, hood, picnic tables, large flat rocks, chair ladder rack besides just on the ground. Use a velcro strap to secure it to ladder or roof rack to prevent it blowing off there. One time we set up on a table found a skinny hole between tall trees and it worked! Really tall trees on the south facing direction up close not so much, only once. A Dish tech that worked with these things a lot says you can actually use a barrel connector/splicer and add up to another 50' of cable and his worked fine that way. I'm looking into the connectors that screw on the cable then slide into the connection to not have to screw those ends on every time. Don't know about the strength of signal thru those but should be a cheap enough thing to test.
