Kipor generator question

I have been looking at generators and have a question about the Kipor model. The 2000W is as quiet as a honda or Yamaha and less expensive. The salesman said it is manufactured by Honda. (?) Do any of you experts have any experience with the Kipor? It would not be used in a commercial fashion, only when needed while camping. Thanks in advance.
  • When I worked we sold Kipor and I bought a Powerhouse, we sold them too. Kipor is made by Kipor and they make big stuff too 30 or 35 KW.
  • My Kipor KGE3000Ti has worked fine since 2006. I don't really use it now that I have solar.
I don't think Kipor is rated as quiet as Honda/Yamaha.
  • From what I understand Kipor is a Chinese knockoff of the Honda. It is so identical to the Honda that Honda parts will fit it. But it is Chinese and has Chinese parts.
  • I have the IGE 3000 inverter gen. and while I don't use it much, it works fine when I need it. That said, it has had it's problems. I bought it on Ebay for several hundred less than retail, arrived NIB, and proceeded to blow apart the fan after the first run. Some time later, the inverter card went bad to the tune of almost $500 and my labor, otherwise it would have been twice that. Needless to say, the money I saved up front was eclipsed by the repair costs. I've heard my experience was not typical, and maybe that's so, but had I to do it again, I'd have bought the red one and smiled. I suggest if you really need a gen you can rely on, you do likewise. Red or Blue...not yellow. Otherwise, it's a nice unit. Roll the dice or count on the sure thing.
  • I have a 6500 watt Kipor that I use for power outages and other chores. It hasnt missed a beat in 4 yrs and has had many tanks of fuel through it. It isn't a Chinese Honda clone, if it was u would see them in other stores besides equipment dealers. And the price would be half of what they cost.
  • Hi,

I had good service from a TI 3500 for about nine years. It is louder than the Yamaha of the same capacity.
  • The Chinese generators are decent, but finding parts and service are more difficult than red/blue/yellow brands.

If it works and works well, you saved good money. If it fails and you have to junk it, then the cost difference for a red/blue may be justified.
  • Last weekend, guy next to me couldn't get his 6000ish Kipor to stay running. Messed around with it for over half an hour. Then I hear "it" running and think he has it fixed. Nope, now there is a 3000 Kipor right next to the big one and it's the one he's using. The thing I noticed is that the factory decals on both were crooked. Even my dirt cheap Champion has the decals on straight. That right there is enough that I wouldn't buy one.

Kipor is NOT made by Honda. They're their own company, and make their own stuff.

I have a Kipor 2000 bought in 2008 and have been very happy with it. No problems, no need for servicing aside from oil changes and it's powered us through several major storms (once running for almost two weeks straight, and once or twice a year for 2-3 days). I've never used it camping - solar works nicely for me, but wouldn't hesitate to do so if I needed to.

As an additional plus, and really the reason we bought it, my wife can start it.
  • I have the Kipor 2000w with the inverter. I use it at the race track on the weekends to power my trailer. I don't think it is as quiet as a Honda but there are tons of generators that are louder than it is. I have had mine for 3 years and it runs during the summer months for a weekend each month and have had no problems with it. I set it up on a couple of 2x4 boards so dirt doesn't get kicked into to it. I am very happy with my Kipor.
