K&N Air Filter?

Ok, I just did that and after 3 pages of links to dusted engines, and fouled sensors, I did not find one article that stated an engine was "destroyed".

I did find articles about engine blow by causing fouled sensors, and improperly installed air boxes causing "dusting" on the inside of the intake.

I have taken my vehicle to the dealer for service and found the air box improperly installed, allowing an air leak.

To the OP, if you want to try a K&N, do so. You be the judge.

Had one on my 99 Tahoe. It started to run rough took it to a shop and they said the first thing they look for is a oil type filter when the customer complains of rough running engine. He said the oil from the filter fouled the engine sensor. And yes it was a new filter not overly oiled. Went to a dry cone type AMZ/OIL air filter and have not had a problem since.

I do run a AFE big oil type filter on my 98 12V Cummins. It has no sensors to foul. AFE owners came from K&N and their filters are supposed to be much higher quality than K&N.

Can't do that as the majority of vehicle owners never raise the hood, and would not have a clue on how to replace the air cleaner, or even think about the proper procedures for cleaning.

I have used K&N filters on my vehicles for 10 plus years. Never had any problems, the throttle body is never really dirty, nor the intake plenum. No increase in engine wear, no issues. I currently have one my truck which is just like the OP is asking about. No issues, no extra HP or Tq that I can tell. But what's nice is the fact that I don't buy filters, just wash and reuse per the instructions. Never over oil, ect. So to me the only advantage is what I had stated above.

I'd use a K&N filter as a diaper. But that's about the extent of it.

Yeah, but did you put the K&N sticker on your window??

Notice how all of these miracle products claim horsepower gains of "UP TO" xxx horsepower. Never an actual number..It's like none of the engineers that build these cars know what they're doing. If it's that easy to gain power why don't the factories use them?
