Known issues with 1997 Aliner

I want to give an Aliner a try while still holding on to my Jayco. I found a 1997 model for sale. Are there any particular issues with the older Aliners that I need to be aware of? I'm expecting to have to fix wear items, but i'm concerned about rot issues. I know the type of wood in the floors was changed in 2010, but I don't know how prevalent rot is in the older units.

  • We had a 2012 Aliner Classic a couple of years ago. We only sold it because we wanted a real potty onboard, and we'd love to have an Aliner Expedition some day.

Check the floor carefully. Aliners of this era were known for floor issues, which is why they changed the construction around 2007. Perhaps the former owner already took care of any problems?

Also check the foam seals where the sections of the roof fit together when folded up. They may need to be replaced, which isn't a huge deal. In addition, do a water test to make sure any windows/skylights don't leak. They may need to be resealed.
  • I had a 1994 Aliner and there was some water that entered at the bottom of the door. This caused a soft spot just inside the door which I subsequently repaired - Had no other floor issues. I did experience small leaks around the bubble windows which at that time was secured by screws. I removed the windows, re-caulked and all was good. I owned the Unit from 2004 to 2008.

I had a 2008 Expedition and loved it, but that's way newer.
