KZ Spree

I am New To Travel Trailers and RVs in General, and My wife has finally convinced me to get one. We are looking at the Spree 329IK by KZ. This model and layout fits our needs best. Again I have no clue what I looking at when it comes to RVs in general. Can Anyone shed some light on this model and especially this Manufacturer??? Any and All help is much appreciated!!
  • Hi and welcome to the forum. For a first timer, that's a pretty hefty size trailer. Since I know it's coming, I'll ask.....what are you towing it with and what are the specs for your specific vehicle. With that GVWR, you should have a capacity around 10,500#+. You'll also need to know your hitch weight, since that question will be right up near the top of the list. And this is an important part....don't believe anything the salesman tells you....research it and confirm it yourself or get help here before making the leap. "Sure, you can tow that no problem" is the #1 comment that's likely not quite true. Remember, his job is to sell you a trailer, then it's your problem. So triple check everything.

KZ makes a good trailer. My cousin and hubby had a rear slide model for about 10 years and no issues, other than routine maintentence. It's a mid-range line, like most, and I don't recall any major complaints re quality or service issues. One thing that has been discussed recently and you might want to check is the roominess of the bathroom. Some have found that it's too snug to be comfortable and that changing clothes is very difficult. In my cousin's KZ, their bathroom door opened inward and it was pretty tricky to get inside, maneuver around the commode and manage to close the door. Just something to check.

    Happy camping!
  • I am a 2 time KZ owner. KZ was founded 43 years ago and until a year ago it was still owned and run by the founder. It is now part of THOR...is that good or bad depends if Thor keeps it as is or makes the same bad choice they did with Crossroads. Mt first KZ was a 2007 Durango TT we bought new in 2009. We developed a delam issue as the warranty was over. To make a long story short...KZ repaired the delam and replaced the entire roof at no cost to me. They were great as was and is the dealer. After friends bought a new Spree from our dealer my wife decided to go look....we ended up with a new 2013 Spree 40th anniversary edition LX 321RK....she fell in love with the rear kitchen and as it is just the 2 of us it wirks great. Only issue has been the wire to the right brake/signal broke somewhere in the coach. I ran a new wire and all is good ( a 1 hour repair. IMHO KZ builds a better than average coach and we would buy another one for sure. We are camping in Myrtle Beach for a couple weeks and I had a concern about the slide seals being flexed in the 10 degree weather at home. I called the service manager at the factory and within about 2 hours got a call from him telling me not to worry. I had to clean 24" total snow from the roof and not an issue either. IMHO...buy the Spree and enjoy. Keep in mind any brand can have issues....it all depends how your dealer handles things and the backing he gets from the factory....from my experiance they are great. Being from the south I would suggest either the 15K BTU A/C or the 2 A/C option and ask the dealer to check with the factory about adding the R38 reflective insulation to the roof. Many times you can get things as an option when they are not shown on the dealers option list (order sheet). We have done this in the past. PM me with spacific questions if you wish.
  • We have a 2012 KZ Sportsmen Classic 170, that we bought in 2013. No complaints. I would not consider them to be high end, but the quality is relative to the price.

You can go to the KZ FAMILY FORUM and ask around there. They have a section dedicated to the Spree. The site is not as active as here, but normally someone answers, eventually :Z.
