Labour Day long weekend in Yukon

Didn't know where we'd go, just went. Along the Alaska Highway between Whitehorse and Beaver Creek (my hometown). Took the little fishing boat too, just in case there was a tempting lake.

    Sue,
fine pix of your travels. I smell a little photoshopping in there...

Other than some cropping or straightening (I take many of the pictures out the truck window while DH drives), then reducing the file size for posting and adding the watermark, there is no editing.

Sometimes I think about de-saturating the reds and yellows BUT those ARE the colours, so why change it?

A closeup of the bush behind our campsite this year at Snag Junction.

This the Top of the World Highway outside of Dawson City the first week of September 2012.

In brilliant sunshine the colour is almost painful on the eyes!
Perhaps because we don't smog or pollution filtering the light.
DH says we live in high-definition; it certainly is a photographer's delight!

    Even during June

Then there were these characters next to our cabin a couple of weeks ago and all around it this week too, bugling & screeching.
  • Sue, thank you for posting. You are a National Treasure. Your posts and website enrich my life and I appreciate your sharing your life with us.

My trip to Alaska in 2005 was, for me, the trip of a lifetime. When I stopped in Faro and was telling the gas station owner how much I enjoyed the Yukon, he suggested that I move there. Many times I wish that I had.

I am glad you have the courage to live your dream.

  • Sue,
fine pix of your travels. I smell a little photoshopping in there. We did an LA/AK/LA in 2003 from May 31st to July 1st and encountered long, dry days with few insects. We want to make another appearance in late August to get the color and shorter, cooler days with maybe a little weather thrown in....in other words just like you just did.
    regards, as always, jefe
  • Great pics Sue

I just camped at Snag Junction last week on my way home to AK from Oregon.

Nice little campground... it's a regular stop for me when driving to and from the lower 48.
