Ladders?

This may seem simple but I would like to know what type of ladder people use to get on top of their trailer. I have used a regular step ladder but it is a pain and kind of unsteady . I thought about an extension ladder but will the edge of the roof line support that kind of weight. I am in the process of finding a new trailer and I want easier access to the roof. A lot of the trailers I like don't have a ladder available as an option ,but I would hate to eliminate them for lack of a ladder. Chime in with what you use please.
  • x2 on telescoping ladder. Fits well in storage are, goes up too 12 feet, light weight and I found it for $87. Just have to look around as I have seen them as high as $200.
  • 2 x 4's 8 - 12 feet long depending the height of the trailer. Cut the steps 16 inches,
Layout the long 2 x 4's at 12 inch intervals and either screw or nail the 16 inch
Pieces in between. I made mine 15 years ago, keep it the garage. I'm still using it.
    Cost you about $20.
  • I use a telescoping ladder. Works fine and takes up only a small amount of space in the back of my TV. I made a cap to fit over the top of the ladder to serve as padding against the side of the TT and to spread the load out somewhat. Used some scrap 1x4 and covered it with the scrap carpet.
  • I have one of these:

...that I keep in the storage compartment. I like to be able to check and clean off the top of the slide before pulling it back in when I have camped under trees.
I just lean it against the side of the camper wall right at the top. Can climb onto the roof from there when needed.
  • My trailer doesn't have a ladder permanently mounted to the back, so I am interested in what others use as well. I am looking to buy a telescoping 12-foot ladder with a 250-300 pound weight rating in case I need to carry gear up to the roof.
