There have been some who have even put the Lance 855s on a 2500. The only difference between 3/4 and 1 ton trucks on the later models is the upper overload spring setup which can be compensated for with aftermarket products. Gas vs Diesel makes no difference on what you are considering unless you plan to also tow a heavy trailer. You should be fine with anything Lance makes up to the 855s which has slightly exceeded my rear axle(tire)capacity but handles just fine in our Sierra mountains.
