Mike Stanbro, I was a little skepticle when I first saw your post... then I read it.
In my opinion you have done a very good analysis of the problem and offered reasonable solutions.
I would like to comment on Lance Camper or any other manufacturers lack of response to letters like this.
Because of possible legal issues the manufactures lawyers will not allow the manufacure to respond. (GMC, FORD, Chrysler wouldn't respomd either... Dometic or Norcold won't either)
I do believe that Lance Camper is probably taking this very seriously and quite possible implimenting fixes similar to your suggestions. They have a history of responding to problems by making changes even in a model midyear.
You have noticed saftey recalls for every thing from Toyota's floor mats to firestone tires on SUV's.
Our campers become part of the vehicle as we haul them on our highways.
Have you thought about contacting the US Dept of Transportation or other agency to facilitate a recall of all of the models effected?
As you write... the fix could be as simple as AGM batteries and isolating the electrical componetes that could create a spark.
Thank you for going the extra mile in order to not only call the manufacturers attention, but to make us aware of the problem and its possible consequences.
