I guess I would ask; after seeing this why did you buy this camper?
You seem to be a pretty detail oriented person-did you not see this when shopping?
Not trying to stir the pot...I agree with you...I just don't understand how you got to this point?

Good question. I am a bit embarrassed to admit that I was not aware of the battery compartment issues until I had taken possession of the camper. It was during my "quality time" spent in that compartment fixing the horrific wiring job done by the dealer that I came to appreciate how the batteries were vented and that they were in the same compartment as the AC-to-DC converter.
I was so concerned about matching the camper to the load capabilities of my truck that I was probably too focused on weight, how to upgrade the truck to handle the weight, etc. Also, I have to admit that I am a bit naive in assuming that manufacturers consider safety issues. I certainly do in the products that I design.
Yes...likewise...I am an Aero-space engineer, so safety is paramount in my profession as well.
In the short term, AGM batteries should help keep your mind at ease. (We run AGM's anyway, for many reasons...) but there were several factors that lead us to shop elsewhere.
Keep us posted and let us know if Lance responds.
As sleepy noted...there may be liabilities for them to consider if they respond to an individual regarding a design issue.
But don't be surprised if this changes in the next generation.
Thanks again for your letter.
