I'd like to comment on Sugarhill's version of fixing the issue. The plastic boxes have a grove molded into them to route the wires. Having to modify the the white plastic boxes is not needed and switches liability from the manufacturer to you.
I had sent Lance the photos of my battery compartment as well as to the dealer. The dealer sent me replacement battery boxes and I installed them the way they are designed to be installed. Luckily the cables were all long enough to reach.
However, there is STILL a problem with the boxes in regards to venting. There is ONE vent per box. How air can circulate in and out through the same little hole, I do not know. There should be a vent for air to go in and another to go out. I looked at this design and came up with an idea; install a tube between the two battery boxes. That way air can circulate through the boxes.
I did another take when I realized the air does not circulate when the camper is not moving; sitting at home and charging from the AC powered charger. Hmmm. So I rigged up a fan that is very small and fits inside the tube of one of the battery covers and powered it off the charger. When the AC charger is on, the fan sucks air out of the battery box, which pulls air through the tube from the second battery box, which sucks in fresh air from it's tube and outside vent. WHEW!!
That's a lot of bullcratp to have to go through.
The best design here would be to wall off the batteries and have an external door from the front of the camper to access the batteries. This would cost Lance more in the production, and it would make battery maintenance an off-camper experience. Either that, or Lance should not allow wet cell batteries to be installed in their campers.
I took the liberity of "bolding" a line in your quote.
Do you think your small fan should be pushing fresh air through the battery box (s)
I would not want to pull hydrogen gas through an electrical fan!
