I can only agree that the 'fixes' are bandaids to a bad design and that the only way to truly ensure you and your family are safe is to change over to AGM batteries or remove them altogether.
My fix requires constant inspection that it's working and that really isn't practical for the application of an RV. I hate to walk away from my 2-year-old 6volt wet cell Trojan batteries, but what else can I do now that I am aware of the issue? Ignorance is bliss they say. ha!!
I can pretty well bet that Lance will only claim there's been no damages due to this design and that there isn't enough legal protection for the owner even if there was.
So, that leaves me with a question; who makes the best AGM batteries these days?
I have had the same two Optima group 31 DT AGM's for 10 years and love them.
I might not replace them with the same... but only because they are only 75AH. (I never use even half of their available capacity.)
If I were buying AGMs today I would look at Bestconvter.com and choose the largest AGM battery that would physically fit the space available and I would look for the most AH's available.
I think that all of the AGM batteries are good.
Good luck
