It was me that Troy wasjabbing with the Gold Standard comment...but the context is important...IMO, and current resale prices validate it, in the used HD pickup diesel market the 2006 and early 2007 GM Duramx/Allisons's with the LBZ engine have the best overall reputation...it is the Gold standard in used diesel pickups..
Excellent overall performance with minimal problems...are they perfect...of course not..but you are getting the best at the time with minimal emission intrusions, decent fuel mileage and great resale value...
The Dodges of that era are also well respected trucks but their auto transmissions have garnered many negative comments and the cabs are a bit smaller...the Fords of that era are the proud possessors of the worst diesel engine in modern memory...that's why they bring about 50% of the price the GM twins command...the market speaks for itself...
Do I think my Gold Standard Chevy is as nice or as sophisticated as a new GM or Ram??? of course not...but with the low miles on the truck it will do the job for me for a few more years...maybe Ford will have a decent truck with a warranty by then...but I will still never spend another penny of my hard earned money to buy one...

I like gold, but I like platinum better:B Haven't seen one LBZ pass me by, but I will say they keep me looking in my mirrors :B No doubt one of the best pullers out there for the pre emission era.
