Leaf Spring shims or wedges?

Hey all, new to this site.
Just picked up a camper for the truck (Dodge 2500 diesel). Got airbags on the truck and it hanldes the camper pretty well without even coming close to maxing out the airbags, however to keep the truck leveled just right, the rear springs don't get down into the overload leaf (2500 has a overload at the bottom of the leaf pack).
This yields a little more body roll than I'd like.
It's manegable but.........
Stable Load offers a "wedge" for lack of a better description that fits between the leaf pack and the overload, but at $200+ and having to drill the springs, it's not an option.
Anyone know of a more simple solution, like some wedges that clamp on or something? (SImilar to how you used to shor up old saggy springs with a couple pieces of plate steel and some hose clamps.)

  • If the cost is the same I would certainly be looking at the sway bar since it is specifically designed to counter body roll. I do agree with others though that you also need to find the happy medium in air bag pressure vs rear sag. Some sag is acceptable if it tows properly. Every setup has its own sweet spot.

YOU may have too much air in the bags not allowing the springs to balance the load,i found it was a bit of a balancing act to get it right, about 22/25 lbs on a 2800 pin wt on my 06 3500 Srw Ram

Just guessing without weights posted but your 2500 should hit the flat bar fairly quickly.

    Yes, correct.
With 3500 lbs+ in the bed it'll hit the overload spring pretty quick.
I am not on the overloads to keep the truck leveled up. Separate valves for each side. Running about 65lbs to level the truck. If I drop it onto the overloads a little it handles better but the @ss is sagging.
Yeah it's over the gvw it's a 2500 with 4k on the back incl the trailer. Tires are rated for it and bags aren't stressing out.
Just would like to get onto the overload leaf without drivin around like a pre runner truck.
Any suggestions on the spring shims?
A sway bar would help but for that money I could get the stable loads.

It may be the best option though. Easier to install than drilling the springs for the shims.
    Thanks
  • Are the bags plumbed to a single fill valve? If so the air could be shifting as you corner.

Some more information would be great.
What year is the Ram, what is the GVWR.
What is the Camper, are you referring to a drop in camper, or a trailer. Might look at getting the Camper Package offered for your year of RAM, included more spring leaves, and a sway bar.
