Leaky trailer

Hi, I own a 2010 R-Vision Trail-sport and a technician has just told me that there has been a leak through a window which means I would have to have part of the wall cut-out and replaced, otherwise mould could develop. He confirmed that there are no broken seals anywhere.
So I have two questions: firstly, on this age of trailer should the manufacturer cover this? I have contacted them but haven't heard back yet. And second, is what I am being told by the technician true, that I need to have all of this work done rather than just putting some sealer around the window to stop any more water getting in? He based his assessment on simply looking at the wall and floor. There is a small dark patch on the floor and I can definitely see ripples in the wallpaper.

I'd really appreciate somebody's advice as I don't know anything about this.

    I would think that if you have no extended warranty the manufacturer is not liable. What model number is your trailer? Who manufactured your trailer, Navistar? I ask because the couple one road over own a r vision trailer.

    My feeling is that yes, you likely need to have this replaced. Mold is nasty and dangerous. Try selling a house that's had a mold problem. Re the manufacturer, depends on your warranty, but that is more of a caulking maintenance issue rather than a part failure. If you are a DIY type, if it's not a very large area, I'd be inclined to see if the manufacturer has the same wallcovering available and make the cut in that area yourself. If it turns out to be more than you bargained for, it'll be a dealer thing. If you DIY, remember the gloves and mask. You can get mold treatment products at Lowe's or HD. Then remember to reseal the whole thing and check the rest of the camper. Good luck.

    Pretty much bad news..but, you will have zero or less chance of getting the manufacturer (or any manufacturer) to step up and help you on a 6 year old trailer.

    Depending on how extensive the damage is and how long it's been leaking, yes, an expensive removal and replacement of the wall is probably where this is going to go.

    But, good luck with it...and sorry for your the grief. Who needs it.

    Thanks for the feedback, I figured that this was going to be something I would have to stump up the cash for but I'll see what the manufacturer comes back and says as ultimately they didn't seal properly in the first place.

    Downtheroad - it's actually a three year old trailer but I'm not sure if that will make the difference.

    loulou57 - it was manufactured by Monaco RV and it's a 27QBSS model. We paid $1800 for an extended warranty and they've informed us that leaks are not covered - aaargh!

    There should be an option......no windows, no leaks. No roof.....you get the idea :S

    :h unsure why you are assuming this. YOU are required to do yearly maintenance on the exterior of your rig to stop water intrusion.

    once they roll down the highway they are subject to joints opening up at no fault of the manufacture.

    The word was coud get mould, not that you did have it, if it was only a resent leak why not wait and se.

    I see you are in Kamloops so I must ask it a Discover Canada wild bear? We have a 27ft QBSS with the breakfast bar. Ours was sold under discover canada, made by Monaco but actually when I called for info Navistar made the trailer. I gave them the serial number. We also bought extended warranty...I wonder what else is not covered.

    There is no visible seal around this window so why should I assume that I therefore need to put a seal where there was no seal in the first place, there was nothing to suggest any joints had opened up and the technician confirmed this.

    I check all the seals prior to winterizing each year and everything was intact and exactly as it looked prior to purchase, this is why I believe (as does the technician) that it's a manufacturer defect.
