Leather driver seat wear

With the constant sliding in & out of our F350, just wondering if the leather seat ever wears a hole thru along the outer edge and how many years it takes; that seems to be the spot that gets the most abrasion.

  • The leather on my 2000 F-150 split down the middle and it showed wear a lot. I got a complete set of leather-like covers very reasonably and it only took me about 1 hour to recover the whole front seat. Color match was quite good.
  • Leather is kind of like women, take care of them and they will treat you well!
Sunlight is hard on leather, especially if not treated correctly. Treat your seats and they'll last a long time. Cloth not so much, they just age with time.
  • Seat cover replacements try this address http://www.gtcovers.com/
I got some for my old Blazer.
  • Had a '97 F150 that I traded after 7 years and 145,000 miles. Leather seats still look fine on it.
Have since had '04 F250, '07 F350, and now '12 F350. None of these have been kept as long or as many miles, but none ever showed much sign of wear.
  • 2003 F250 took just six years for the drivers seat in my Lariat to split. In Texas, through 110 degree summers though. Treated it regularly with Lexol and that did not help.
  • Saddle soap will help protect and extend the life. I just cleaned my steering wheel with it. Didn't get sticky or slick. A little shoe was style tin runs about $5 at any farm type store.
  • Mine is an 02 X and the leather is not worn through, but drivers seat bottom is cracking pretty good. I need to see if I can still get a factory replacement. I would recommend getting at least the bottom material. that way you will have it if you need it. cheap insurance. wish I would`ve bought one years ago just to have around!
  • 2004 excursion 165,??? miles and the edge of the leather bucket seat is not thru yet but it looks like it might wear thru in the next year or so.
  • I don't know about your F-350, but it took about 12 years for my 98 Safari leather seats to wear through being used on a daily basis.
