As another poster mentioned, you can basically turn it on and once it's hot turn it off and have nice warm water for most uses for the entire day.
My experience has been, If you want hot water leave it on if you want warm water you can turn it off and the water will be warm (not hot).
The amount of actual dollars saved by switching on and off will be negligible
