jefe, the regulated ones do not change in brightness with battery voltage differences.
The non regulated yes. You can see the difference, although not bad when the battery is at 12.x and 13.6+....
Like Wayne, I have been playing with these things since they came out....
In the early days of bright white led's I designed a few but found the voltage/ current tolerances v/s brightness was too much. I then added a regulator... and decided that the cost v/s lumens was not cost effective. There were no small/mini buck regulators back then.
When the regulated led's emerged I purchased some... Expensive... $16+ each. But wow what an Amp Hour savings.... .2amps v/s 2... holy cow!
I have recently started playing with the "CHEAP" non regulated's... like Wayne.. Running some 24/7.... So my converter Progressive Dynamics does it 14.4 vdc every 23 hrs and all is still ok.
I have not introduced this testing to my solar... It can get as high as 14.9 when my battery (s) are cold.... We will see how these CHEAPIES do with that voltage.
