LED light strip

I have a 2023 Coleman lantern LT 17b and I am putting up a strip of LED lights. I am having trouble feeding them through where the awning wires are into the inside to tie into the power source. When I fed them through there seems to be a stud or something in the way so I cannot get to the wires that are fed through. Could I run the LED wires to the wires that are exposed on the arm of the awning? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
