LED strip lighting

Lights, Kewl..
heheh, I luv'em... i see the Trucks, especially at Christmas time and wonder just how they are 'Hooked up'...
I've seen the strip lights, but as OP asks, just how are the stuck on without major work and my question is how are they "Powered".
Is everyone running lines to another light source or are you drilling into shell and hook up internally somewhere. I would think it's on it's own circuit to allow on/off switch or gradual..
Anyway, '...looking for answers in all the right places...'
