LED TV Suggestions

When we ordered our Adventurer TC, we had the TC prewired for TV but passed on purchasing the factory TV as it was over a $500 option. We really don't watch a lot of TV when camping, but if staying in an RV park it is some times nice to be able to catch up on what is going on in the world. So if any of you have recommendations on an affordable LED TV, either 12 volt or 110 AC I would appreciated your input. If there are some things to be aware of I would appreciate that too.

Thanks,

Jim
  • I went with a 24inch fluid TVs (SOURCE HOUSE BRAND) it was the cheapest TVs that had 1080p also a 12 volt unit with a 120 volt brick adaptor, so no pure sine inverter needed. I bought a great articulated arm on Ebay for 10.00.
  • I was going to go with a cheap mount but didn't seem to find many with a travel catch and I didn't want to have to use a bungee, just something that would irratate me over time. The mor/ryde mount has a nice latch that holds it in the travel positon. It also has lots of reach so it can be swung out to be seen from the dinette.

This is the mount I used
  • Check out monoprice.com for a mount. FAR LESS expensive than any store like best buy or wal-mart. Like in the $20-30 range!! This is where I got the mount for my 22" Insignia, which is going on 5 years running from 12V directly (I replaced the external brick with a cable from Radioshack)
  • Take measurements and go to best buy or walmart and pick the one you like the picture best on

The TV is going to be mounted. I will get something very similar to what the factory offers. Your USB stick option is interesting, but won't really work for us.

  • The LED panels are pretty close to the same in small versions. Do pay attention to the speaker quality. Some tv speakers are pretty awful. Usually, really bad speakers are mentioned in reviews of tvs.
  • Very similar story here. I just mounted a tv in my Adventurer camper. I went with the Insignia tv with external 12v power supply. I found a 12v cable at the source.

The tv was less than $100 CDN, but it cost me a lot more for the mount. I wnet with the rv-specific Mor-ryde mount. Nice heavy duty mount with a 'travel' lock.
  • We likely have one of the smallest TV's going. We put in a 15 inch RCA. It's on a swing arm and we can aim it towards the bed, or towards the dinette.

Even at home we only watch recorded shows, and on the road, we like to keep up with news and coffee in bed in the morning and especially weather, and other than than.. generally we are in bed when the recordings start, but we catch up at home.

It fits the bill for us perfectly and was only $80.

I like the Vizio LED Razer line of tv's ... they are very light weight and thin. There might be some smaller units that run off 12v (like ones that take a power brick instead of a normal cord). The 28" I put in my trailer is 120 volt. ac

Is this something you'll be mounting, or do you want a tiny tv that can go into storage when it's not being used?

If you have a laptop already, you can by a HDTV usb stick for it ($20-$30) that hooks to your TC's antenna and will tune in tv stations using your laptop screen for the display.

X2 on Vizio. Decent price and quality
