Length of Trailers

A little confused here , when everyone talks of their 22 or 24 ft. trailer ( for instance) are they referring to box length or overall bumper to end of tongue ? TIA
  • I have to agree with Grandpakip my box is 23 but when I make reservations to CG or SP I say it's a 25ft. From bumper to hitch, because that's the actual space that is going to take in the site where the T.T. will be set up.
  • 21' box, so it's a 21 footer, except when a campground wants the length. Then it becomes a 25 footer. Been stuck in too many sites where the truck and camper wouldn't fit.

You'd have to ask each individual person ... when I speak of my own I refer to it as a 19' because that's roughly the size of the box and therefore the class size it's in, but if total length is relevant to the discussion then I'll say it's 22' 6" coupler to bumper. Here in Ontario where the CAMIS reservation system represents a lot of park systems including Ontario Parks I'll enter my trailer size as "18' & under" as that maximizes the number of sites that might be available and even though it's actually longer than that I know for fact it will fit on any of these so-called "small" sites. JMO, but description of trailer size should be dictated by the context of the discussion as sometimes it's box size that's relevant, other times it's tip to tail.
  • Our model is 21 mble. Neither the box, nor the overall length is 21'.
I believe the box is less and the overall is longer.
If asked by a campground I say 23'. I'd rather have a little extra room, then be jammed up.
We're looking at newewer/ bigger TT's. It seems like anything with a model "27" or so is about, or slightly over 30'.
  • I think most "seasoned" RV.net-ers have learned to use the actual bumper-to-bumper length of their camper, if that be TT, 5er, MH, or pop-up. Hybrid owners almost almost always use two figures in their description. Bumper to bumper and bunk end to bunk end expanded. I don't think too many refer to the actual floor space inside the camper. That's just too confusing.

You definitely cannot use the dealer description either. Every manufacturer uses a different figure. All you can assume is a Trex-175 is going to be shorter than the Trex-275.
  • the length is how long it is and has nothing much to do with the model.
