Lessons from a new TT owner

Lion, good post. Theory often hits the cold light of reality.
I mentioned before that my wife and I were not sure we wanted to pull one of these barns down the road. So we rented a 25 ft. light weight 4800# TT and headed for the Ozarks.
I had a 2002 F150 with towing pack rated to 6000#, it also had 200,000 miles. The long and the short of it was, the truck loaded fine, it handled fine, but the little 200 horse V6 could not pull the load. The slightest grades of the Ozarks and it was 55 mph tops, also you had to drive it and keep the transmission in a reasonable gear; no cruise control here.
Still it did what it was supposed to do, it showed us what we were getting to; like 10 mpg or less, planning ahead for gas stops, using pull through sites (it was April so there was not much of a crowd) and mainly what size TT we could live with. We had a great time, albeit a bit slower than we anticipated.
We have done enough wilderness camping to roll with the punches but renting and trying was a very good move for us.
