My dumbest and smartest things I've done with trailers...
Dumbest:...back in the early '90s, I had an '84 Pontiac Bonneville that I had some guy weld on a receiver hitch... was planning a long trip through the SW US and bought a 16ft. Surfside fiberglass TT that seemed light enough (never weighed anything nor asked in those days)....Noticed in Flagstaff AZ, that the rear bumper seemed to be getting kind of low....drove down to Sedona on 89A next day and, yep, that bumper was looking real low...took it into an RV shop there and they said that most of the weight was on the car's bumper from the hitch being welded on it (as well as the frame)...I could have had a very serious mishap if that had come off...though the trailer had electric brakes, I didn't have them hooked up as I thought it was so light.....the RV shop didn't have a class 3 hitch in stock but they fabricated me one that they said would handle much more than the car could and they got me back on the road...
Smartest thing: pulling out the credit card and realizing that immediate action had to be taken to remedy the problem, no matter what it was going to cost...
